America’s Cup Yacht Race (2017.06.17)


          Please join us for a boating celebration special on KRNN radio for Walking The Blues Away, Sat.17.June at 5pm (Alaska Time)

            The 2017 America’s Cup is the 35th edition of the America’s Cup yacht race. The finals will begin Saturday, 17th of June 2017.  The Challenger Emirates Team New Zealand, (winner of the 2017 Louis Vuitton Cup) will race against the Defender, Oracle Team USA (winner of the 2013 America’s Cup).   The contests will be piloted using hydro-foiling  AC50 America’s Cup Class yachts.  The past and stature linked to the America’s Cup entices the world’s best sailors and yacht engineers along with affluent financiers and promoters. It is a trial of nautical ability and boat and sail enterprise, but also of organization and financing skills.



World Sleep Day (2017.03.17)


World Sleep Day, March 17th  is intended to be a celebration of sleep and promote its attributes, including medicine, education, social aspects and driving. It is organized by the World Sleep Day Committee of World Sleep Society (founded by WASM and WSF).  It appears that the dogs will be well-rested as there will be no napping on belated sleep day celebrate with WTBA on KRNN 3/18 at 5 pm.


World Plumbing Day (2017.03.11)


World Plumbing Day is an international event, initiated by the World Plumbing Council, held on 11 March each year to recognise the important role plumbing plays in societal health and amenity.

        A show for us all the pay tribute to sanitation, and indoor hot water.

White Shirt Day (1937.02.11)


       Gavin and Wyatt have joined the strikers in celebration of their victory.  You can join John for a White Shirt Day commemoration on KRNN radio on 2/11 at 5 pm.

       UAW workers and retirees will celebrate White Shirt Day to honor the Flint sit-down strike successful conclusion in Flint Michigan on February 11, 1937. The white shirts are worn as a tribute to the Flint strikers who became the bargaining agent in talks with GM.  The 44-day strike was meant to tell management that “blue collar” workers should a accorded the same respect as their management counterparts, according to UAW officials. As a result – Local 598 was born. 



CROSSING ON CROSSCURRENTS, 12/26:  Commanding a column of the Continental Army toward an attack on Trenton through horrendous conditions, George Washington successfully leads his troops across the Delaware River on this date in 1776.  Gavin and Wyatt make the shoreline with only nine miles to Trenton.  You are invited to commemorate this courageous crossing with music from New Jersey artists on Crosscurrents, 12/26 at 8 am.

MPs Vote To Decriminalise Non-Payments Of TV License

BBC WORLD SERVICE ON CROSSCURRENTS, 12/19:  Transmitting overseas via short-wave, the precursor of the B.B.C. World Service started on this date in 1932.  Gavin and Wyatt rest in front of the B.B.C. building though John is not napping in the KRNN studio.  You can hear some uniquely British tunes for the World Service anniversary on Crosscurrents, 12/19 at 8 am

Wright Bros and Santa (1903.12.17)


WRIGHT BROTHERS AND SANTA ON WTBA 12/17:  Many historians credit the Wright brothers with the first powered flight of 120 feet on this day in 1903.  Other storytellers depict the seasonal flight orbiting the globe of Santa Claus occurring every year .  You are invited to celebrate both flights of the Wrights and of Santa with blues tunes on “Walkin Those Blues Away”, 12/17 at 5 pm
